Bedding for Hot Sleepers

Bedding by need

Bedding for hot sleepers

If you run warm at night, the cloth matters more than anything else on the bed. Of our four fabrics, two are the ones to pick: Plain Cotton percale, a crisp, matt one-over-one weave, and French linen, which takes up moisture and hands it back. Choose them in cool colours if you like the look; colour sets the mood, the fabric does the work.

Light, matt and airy

Hot sleepers tend to prefer a cloth that feels flat and dry to the hand rather than smooth and close.

Which fabric for a hot sleeper

All four of our fabrics are pure cotton or pure flax. The difference is the weave and the weight.

Fabric Weave and weight How it feels Double set For a hot sleeper
Plain Cotton Percale, 200 thread count, a plain one-over-one weave Crisp and matt; cool, flat and quiet £59.90 First choice
French linen Stonewashed French flax, 170 GSM Relaxed and textured; takes up moisture and hands it back £139.90 First choice
Cloud Cotton Double gauze: two fine 200 thread count layers joined Soft and crinkled; air sits between the two layers £79.90 If you like softness; a lighter layer than a duvet alone
Silky Cotton Sateen, 300 thread count Smooth with a low lustre; denser and heavier in the hand £104.90 Less suited: the densest weave

Percale and sateen are both cotton; what changes is the weave. Percale crosses one thread over one under, which leaves a matt, crisp surface. Sateen floats threads over several others, which gives it lustre and a closer, heavier drape. Linen is flax, a hollow fibre with a looser, slubby weave.

Weave by weave: percale vs sateen and linen vs cotton bedding. A full comparison is on our bedding fabrics page, and pyjamas for warm nights are covered in our hot sleeper pyjama guide.

Cool colours to build in

Each opens the builder with a double bed in that colour and fabric. Colour does not change how warm a bed is; pick what looks cool to you.

Cool colour pairings

Pale on pale reads calm; one cool colour with white reads fresh.

Questions about bedding for hot sleepers

What is the best bedding for hot sleepers?

Most hot sleepers prefer cotton percale or linen. Our Plain Cotton is a 200 thread count percale with a crisp, matt surface, and our French linen is a 170 GSM stonewashed flax that takes up moisture and hands it back. Both come in duvet covers, fitted sheets and pillowcases.

Is percale or sateen better for hot sleepers?

Percale. Both are cotton, but percale is a plain one-over-one weave that feels flat and crisp, while sateen floats threads to make a smoother, denser, heavier cloth.

Is linen bedding good for hot sleepers?

Linen is a popular choice for warm sleepers: flax is a looser, textured weave that takes up moisture and hands it back. Our Linen double set is £139.90; most linen colours are made to order and ship in 3 to 6 days.

Does the colour of bedding make a difference?

Not to temperature. Colour changes how a bed looks, not how warm it is. Whites, blues, sage and greys simply read as cool and calm.

How much is a percale double bedding set?

A Plain Cotton percale double set of fitted sheet, duvet cover and pillowcases is £59.90 in the colour combo builder, in any of 42 colours. Delivery is free in the UK.
