Bedding Fabrics

Bedding fabrics, judged at 3am.

A fabric is easy to love in a shop and hard to live with at four in the morning.

These four survived that test. Each one is set out below with its weave, its weight, its price and — because this is usually the thing that decides it — the thing it does badly. Eighty-one colourways sit at the bottom of the page.

Start with what wakes you.

Thread count is a poor way to choose bedding and a good way to sell it. The useful question is narrower: what is it that actually gets you out of a good night’s sleep? Pick one and the four narrow down.

Cloud Cotton

Holds warm air without weight. Wakes you warm, rarely hot. — from £64.90 a set.

Plain Cotton

Cool, flat and quiet. Crisp on night one, soft by month three. — from £49.90 a set.

Silky Cotton

Cool on contact, dense enough that hair and fur stay on the surface. — from £84.90 a set.

French Flax Linen

Takes up moisture and hands it back. Dry in a warm room, never clammy. — from £109.90 a set.

All four fabrics shown. Pick a condition to narrow them.

Cloud Cotton

The one that wakes you warm, not hot.

Two fine 200 thread count layers are woven separately and joined, so the air sits between them rather than against you. That is the whole trick: loft without weight. A Cloud Cotton duvet cover lifts instead of pressing, a fitted sheet gives instead of pulling, and the handle is the softest in the range straight out of the packet — no break-in period, no starch.

It creases, and it dries slowly. Two layers hold twice the water, so it is slower on a line than a flat percale, and it comes off the bed rumpled rather than smooth. Cloud Cotton is a fabric you live in, not one you press.

Plain Cotton

Hotel-crisp, and the cheapest fabric to be wrong about.

A flat, tightly woven 200 thread count with a matte finish and a faint cool snap when you pull the covers back — the feel of a properly made hotel bed. It carries the widest palette in the range by a distance and the lowest entry price in it, which makes it the sensible fabric for a spare room, a child’s bed, or a colour you want to try before committing to it in linen.

It starts crisp, not soft. Percale earns its softness over the first dozen washes rather than arriving with it. If you want soft on night one, Cloud Cotton is the honest answer.

Silky Cotton

Cool to the hand, and the one the dog cannot ruin.

Woven at 300 threads per square inch, dense enough that the surface reads as a sheen rather than a texture. It is cool on contact, kind to hair and skin that catch on rougher weaves, and tight enough that pet hair sits on top of it instead of working down into it. Of the four, this is the one that photographs like silk and washes like cotton.

Cool to the touch is not the same as airy. Sateen sits close to the body and moves less air than an open weave. If you overheat through the night rather than simply waking warm, linen does more for you than a high thread count ever will.

French Flax Linen

The one that gets better and never gets neat.

Grown and spun in France, woven at 170 grams per square metre and stonewashed before it reaches you, so the first night is soft rather than the fiftieth. Flax fibre is hollow-cored: it takes up moisture and hands it back to the air, which is why a linen bed stays dry in a warm room and never turns clammy in a humid one. It is the only fabric here that visibly improves with age.

It creases, permanently and by design. Linen does not press flat and will not stay flat. It is also the shortest palette in the range, and the one most made to order: Natural is held ready to ship, while Snow, Terracotta, Mist, Moss Green and Charcoal are made for you and ship within 3 to 6 days. If a smooth bed matters more to you than a lived-in one, this is not your fabric.

Bedding sets from £109.90 · Fitted sheet from £44.90 · Duvet cover from £64.90 · Pillowcase pair from £29.90

Eighty-one colourways.

Every colourway on our printed fabric charts, sampled from the cloth itself rather than guessed. Only eight are made to order — the Blue, Green and Black Pinstripes in Cloud Cotton, and Snow, Terracotta, Mist, Moss Green and Charcoal in linen — at the same price, shipping within 3 to 6 days. Everything else is ready to ship. If a colourway is not listed on a product page, choose Other Colour and name it in the cart note. Pick one to carry it through to the builder.

What each one costs.

Prices are the entry point for each piece — a single bed, in stock, before any bundle saving. A set costs less than the same pieces bought separately, and the saving is in the price you see rather than in a code you have to remember.

The questions we actually get.

Which snoozyn bedding fabric is coolest to sleep in?

French Flax Linen. At 170 gsm the weave is open and the flax fibre is hollow-cored, so it takes up moisture and releases it to the air instead of holding it against you. Silky Cotton is the coolest to the touch — a 300-thread sateen feels cold when you first get in — but it moves less air than linen once you are under it.

What thread count is snoozyn bedding?

Silky Cotton is 300 thread count. Cloud Cotton and Plain Cotton are both 200 thread count — Cloud in two joined layers, Plain in a single flat percale weave. Linen is not measured in thread count at all; it is measured by weight, and ours is 170 gsm.

Will your fitted sheets fit a deep mattress?

Every fitted sheet in the range is cut for mattresses up to 35 cm (14 inches) deep as standard. From 15 inches we make a deeper tailored sheet, which carries a £15 surcharge and is added for you in the bed builder.

Can I mix two fabrics in one set?

Yes. The bed builder lets you set the fabric and colour of each piece separately — a linen duvet cover over a cloud cotton fitted sheet, say — and prices the set as you go. A mixed set carries the same saving as the equivalent single-fabric bundle.

What if the colour I want is not stocked in the size I need?

Yes, in every fabric — linen included: choose Other Colour on the product and leave the colourway in the cart note, and it is made in the colour you picked at the same price as a stocked one. Only eight colourways are made to order — the Blue, Green and Black Pinstripes in Cloud Cotton, and Snow, Terracotta, Mist, Moss Green and Charcoal in linen — and they ship within 3 to 6 days. Every other colourway is ready to ship.

Are these fabrics certified organic or OEKO-TEX?

No, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. Our factories are independently audited and we hold the audits on file; our packaging is recyclable and plastic-free. We hold no third-party fabric certification, so we do not claim one. The full position is here.

How long does bedding take to arrive, and can I send it back?

Orders are dispatched in 1–3 business days. UK and Western EU delivery takes 3–7 business days, duties included. UK shipping is £5, free over £50. Unused bedding can be returned within 30 days with its tags on; monogrammed pieces cannot be returned. Shipping and returns in full.

Or stop reading and build the bed.

Set the fabric and colour of every piece separately, see it made up as you go, and check out as one set. Mix linen with cotton if that is what your room wants — the saving is the same either way.
