Custom sizes

Your bed isn’t the wrong size.

We cut Single, Double, King and Super King as standard because those are the beds we stock for. A 160 × 200 in Berlin, a 140 × 200 in Paris, a Queen in Sydney — none of those are on the size dropdown, and all of them are made to order in any fabric we sell. Same for a table nobody makes a cloth for.

Beds outside the UK

British beds are the odd ones in Europe. Most of the continent works in 200 cm lengths and 10 cm width steps — 90, 140, 160, 180, 200 — while the UK runs 190 cm and thinks in feet.

Sometimes that works in your favour. A continental 180 × 200 king is exactly our Super King, so you can buy it off the shelf today. A 160 × 200 sits between our Double and our King and fits neither.

The table below is the usual standard, not a promise about your bed. Mattresses vary by maker and by decade — measure yours before you order anything, here or anywhere.

Couples in Germany, Austria and Scandinavia usually sleep under two single duvets rather than one large one — if that is your bed, order two singles in the colours you want and say so; we will size the sheet to the bed underneath.

Tables, and the linen for them

Table linen is worse than bedding for this, because there is no standard table. The listed cloths cover the common rectangles, squares and one round — anything else is cut to your table, in Cloud Cotton or French linen, with napkins and runners to match.

The maths is simple enough to do yourself before you write to us: table width + (2 × drop), table length + (2 × drop). A round table is diameter + (2 × drop).

Drop is the overhang, and it is yours to choose on a custom cloth. Our own: Cloud Cotton cloths are cut to a 15 cm drop, linen cloths to 45 cm — which is why a linen cloth is the table plus 90 cm in both directions and a Cloud Cotton one is the table plus 30. Floor length is around 74–76 cm on a standard dining table.

What to measure

Five numbers, a tape measure, and we can price it without a second email. Centimetres or inches, either is fine — just say which.

If you are not sure, send what you have and we will ask for the rest. Nobody is going to be marked down for a rough number.

Fitted sheet

Width × length × depth, measured on the mattress itself, base to top surface. Include a topper if you leave it on permanently. Do not measure the bed frame.

There is no penalty for a deeper sheet than you need. A sheet cut shallower than the mattress will never stay on a corner.

Duvet cover

Measure the duvet, not the bed. Lay it flat and take width × length. The cover is cut to the insert, and the insert is what decides the drape either side.

Two single duvets on one bed is normal across half of Europe — if that is you, give us both duvets and the bed.

Flat sheet

Give us the mattress width, length and depth, and say whether you tuck it in or leave it loose. That difference is about 30 cm of cloth on each side.

Pillowcases

Measure the pillow flat, without squashing it. Continental squares — 80 × 80 or 65 × 65 — are the two we are asked for most, and neither goes in a UK case.

Say how many, and whether you want a housewife edge or the trimmed edge.

Table linen

Table width × length × height, plus the drop you want. Round tables: diameter. If the table extends, give us both the everyday size and the extended one — usually the answer is a cloth for the bigger setting.

Napkins and runners: say the number and we will match them to the cloth.

Before you ask, the honest part.

Made to order is a real commitment on both sides. These are the things you would find out eventually, so here they are first.

  • It cannot be returned.A piece cut to your measurements is made for one bed or one table, so it is outside the usual change-of-mind return. Faulty or not as described is always ours to put right. We confirm every number with you in writing before anything is cut.
  • Price and lead time come with the reply.There is no published surcharge and no standard turnaround, because a 160 × 200 fitted sheet and a 210 × 340 linen cloth are not the same job. You get both numbers before you commit to anything.
  • Colours are the ones we have sampled.Eighty-one colourways across the four fabrics — not all of them are selectable on a product page. Name the one you want, or send a reference, and we will tell you honestly whether it can be matched before you plan a room around it.
  • Fabric, not invention.Cloud Cotton, Silky Cotton, Plain Cotton and French linen, same cloth as the listed range. We are not going to source a new fabric for one order.

How a custom size actually runs.

You send the measurements, the pieces and the fabric if you have a view. Rough is fine — we will ask for the rest.

A person reads it. Same inbox as everything else, a reply within a working day on weekdays. If your size is closer to a stocked one than you thought, we will say so.

You get a price and a date we can hold, with the exact measurements written back to you to check. Nothing is cut until you confirm them.

It is made and it ships — UK or Europe, same as everything else. Monogramming can go on it at the same time.
