Two plies of 200 TC percale, closed with a mitred hem, at 45 x 33 cm — a cover big enough for a plate, a glass and the cutlery either side of it. The double layer is the point: it gives the mat enough body to lie flat on a bare table without a backing you have to explain to a laundry.

Cotton rather than cork, jute or coated linen, so it goes into a normal wash and comes back the same colour. Six colourways matched to the Plain Cotton palette, and for anything outside them, choose Other (Custom Colour) and type the colour in the box that appears.
