What Colour Bedding Goes With Grey Walls? 7 Colours That Work
Short answer. White or off-white bedding is the safest choice with grey walls: it lifts the room without competing with the paint. For more colour, follow the wall's undertone. Blues and mint greens suit cool, blue-based greys; cream, terracotta, mustard and dusty pink suit warm greys. Grey bedding works too, as long as it is clearly lighter or darker than the wall.

Grey is one of the most common bedroom wall colours in the UK, and one of the easiest to dress a bed against. The catch is that "grey" covers everything from a chilly blue-grey to a soft beige-grey, and the bedding that looks right with one can look off with the other. This guide starts with that difference, then goes through seven bedding colours that work, with links to build each bed.
First, work out which grey you have
Hold a sheet of white printer paper flat against the wall in daylight. If the grey looks bluish or greenish next to the white, it is a cool grey. If it looks beige, brown or slightly pink, it is a warm grey, often called greige. Then look at how light or dark it is: a pale wall can take almost any bedding, while a dark wall needs a lighter bed to stand out.
Keep the answer in mind as you read the list below. Most of the colours work with any grey; the undertone tells you which shade of each to pick.
Seven bedding colours that go with grey walls
1. White and off-white
The safest choice, and the one that makes a grey room look lighter. With a cool grey, pick a clean white: Off White in Plain Cotton, Off White in Cloud Cotton or Milky White in Silky Cotton. With a warm grey, a softer white such as Cream or Oat Milk stops the bed looking stark against the wall. Every shade is on our white and cream bedding page.
2. A lighter or darker grey
Grey on grey looks deliberate when there is a clear step between wall and bed. Against a pale wall, go darker: Charcoal Grey or Smoke. Against a dark wall, go lighter: Silver, Light Grey or Warm Grey. Bedding in almost the same grey as the paint is the one version that tends to look flat. See every shade on our grey bedding page.

3. Blue
Blue is the classic partner for a cool, blue-based grey. Pale walls suit Baby Blue or Sky Blue; for more depth, try Navy Blue or Marine Blue. Blue Grey and Blue Jeans in Cloud Cotton sit halfway between the two colours. More on our blue bedding page.

4. Green
Green works with either kind of grey. With a cool grey, try Mint Green or the greyer Mint Grey; Mint Green is also the nearest colour we make to sage. With a warm grey, the deeper greens look richer: Forest Green, Juniper Green, Olive or Moss Green linen, which is made to order and ships in 3 to 6 days. All of them are on our green bedding page.
5. Terracotta and rust
A warm earth colour against grey is one of the most striking combinations, and it suits warm greys best. Try Terracotta, Cinnamon or Brick Red in Plain Cotton, Rust in Silky Cotton or Copper in Cloud Cotton. Browse our terracotta and rust and burnt orange pages, or the autumn bedding edit for the whole warm range.
6. Mustard and yellow
One yellow piece goes a long way against grey, especially a mid or dark grey. Mustard in Cloud Cotton is the boldest, Butter the softest. If a whole yellow bed feels like too much, use it on the duvet and keep the sheets and pillowcases neutral, or pair it with navy: mustard and navy. More on our mustard and yellow bedding page.

7. Pink
Grey and pink is a long-standing pairing, and it is kindest to warm greys with a hint of pink or beige in them. Dust Pink is muted enough for a grown-up room; Pale Pink in Cloud Cotton is softer still. Both are on our pink bedding page.

Screens show colour differently, so treat any photograph, ours included, as a guide. Look at the paint and the bedding in the same daylight before you decide.
Using two colours on one bed
A simple rule: put the main colour on the duvet cover and a second colour on the sheets and pillowcases, and let one of them echo the wall. A few that work with grey walls, each of which opens the builder with the colours already chosen: charcoal and off white, grey and denim blue, juniper and cream and terracotta and off white. Our guide to mixing bedding colours has 18 more combinations.
The fabric changes how the colour looks
The same colour reads differently in each fabric, which matters against a plain painted wall. Plain Cotton is a 200 thread count percale with a matt, crisp finish. Silky Cotton is a 300 thread count sateen with a soft sheen, so its colours look a little deeper. Cloud Cotton is a double-layer cotton gauze with a crinkled texture that softens a colour. Linen is stonewashed French flax with a relaxed, slubby surface. Our bedding fabric guide compares all four.
A double set of fitted sheet, pillowcases and duvet cover costs £59.90 in Plain Cotton, £79.90 in Cloud Cotton and £104.90 in Silky Cotton. A two-tone Plain Cotton double set is £62.90. Duvet covers start at £29.90 and pillowcase pairs at £7.90.
Questions people ask about bedding for grey walls
What colour bedding goes best with grey walls?
White or off-white bedding is the safest choice with grey walls, because it lifts the room without competing with the paint. For more colour, follow the wall's undertone: blues and mint greens suit cool greys, while cream, terracotta, mustard and dusty pink suit warm greys.
Does grey bedding go with grey walls?
Yes, as long as the bedding is clearly lighter or darker than the wall. Charcoal or smoke bedding looks deliberate against a pale grey wall, and silver or light grey bedding does the same against a dark one. Bedding in almost the same grey as the wall tends to look flat.
What colour bedding goes with light grey walls?
Light grey walls take most colours. Off white keeps the room light, charcoal grey or navy adds depth, and baby blue, mint green, terracotta or dusty pink add colour. Pick by undertone: cooler colours for a blue-grey wall, warmer ones for a beige-grey wall.
What colour bedding goes with dark grey walls?
Dark grey and charcoal walls suit bedding with plenty of contrast: off white, cream, light grey, mustard or pale pink. A very dark bed against a very dark wall can disappear, so keep at least one light piece, such as the sheets or pillowcases.
Does blue or green bedding go with grey walls?
Both do. Blue is the classic partner for cool, blue-based greys, from baby blue to navy. Green works with either kind of grey: mint green sits well with cool greys, and olive, juniper or forest green with warm greys.
How do I tell if my grey walls are warm or cool?
Hold a sheet of white printer paper flat against the wall in daylight. If the grey looks bluish or greenish next to the white, it is a cool grey. If it looks beige, brown or slightly pink, it is a warm grey, often called greige.
