A single is the smallest standard UK bed: children's rooms, guest rooms, student halls. The numbers are simple, but there is one trap: a lot of beds described as "single" are really 4 ft small doubles. This page covers every single-bed measurement. What size duvet for a single bed?

A single duvet is 135 × 200 cm. It is 45 cm wider than the mattress, which gives about 22 cm of drop each side, and 10 cm longer, so it just reaches over the foot. On a bed against a wall, that drop all hangs on the open side.

Some people prefer a double duvet on a single, especially for teenagers or a single bed used as a daybed. A 200 × 200 cm double gives about 55 cm of drop each side. It looks generous, and it needs a double duvet cover to go over it.

Single fitted and flat sheet sizes

A single fitted sheet is 90 × 190 cm, cut for mattresses up to 35 cm deep. A single flat sheet is 180 × 260 cm, which leaves about 45 cm each side to tuck under the mattress.

Single, small single, small double or EU single?

Measure the mattress, not the frame. At 90 cm wide it is a single; at 120 cm it is a small double, which needs double-sized bedding. Student halls often use small doubles. A European single is 10 cm longer than a UK one, so a UK single fitted sheet will not stay on it. We cut sheets to your measurements for those beds.

How many pillowcases with a single bed?

One. Our single bedding sets include one standard 50 × 75 cm pillowcase; every larger size includes two. If you use two pillows, add a pillowcase pair in the same fabric.
