The Art of Gifting: Why Luxury Pyjamas Make the Perfect Present

Most gifts get used once and then live in a cupboard. Sleepwear is the exception: a good pyjama set is worn two or three nights a week for years, which makes it one of the highest-use gifts you can give. That is also why it is easy to get wrong — the bar is "would they actually reach for this?", not "does it look impressive in the box?".

Here is how to choose one properly.

Start with the budget, not the print

Sleepwear splits into three clear tiers, and each one says something different.

The middle tier is where most gifts should sit. A £50 set is enough to feel considered without tipping into the kind of luxury that makes the recipient save it for special occasions — which, with sleepwear, means never wearing it.

The sizing problem, and three ways around it

Sizing is the single reason people talk themselves out of giving clothing. There are three honest solutions.

3. Buy the set, keep the receipt. Unworn items with tags still attached can be returned within 30 days, so a size swap is a straightforward conversation rather than an awkward one. Worth knowing before you agonise over a UK 12 or a UK 14.

Match the gift to the person, not the occasion

• Someone who runs hot. A short set in Modal Cloud — the fibre handles moisture better than cotton, so it is the one to choose for anyone who kicks the duvet off at 2am.

Prints or plains?

A useful rule: buy prints for people whose taste you know, and solids for people whose taste you are guessing at. Baby pink, navy, black and sage are unlikely to be anyone's favourite thing in the world, and equally unlikely to be wrong.

• Order early. Orders are dispatched within 1–3 business days, with UK and Western EU delivery typically 3–7 business days after that. For a dated occasion, count back at least two weeks.
• No surprise charges on arrival. UK and EU taxes and duties are included in the price, so nothing lands on the recipient's doormat asking for money — which matters when you are shipping a gift straight to someone else.
• Personalised items cannot be returned. If you add any customisation, be confident on the size first.
