What size duvet for a king size bed?

A UK king duvet is 230 × 220 cm. That is 80 cm wider than the mattress, which gives about 40 cm of drop each side, and 20 cm longer, so it covers the foot of the bed properly. It is the same generous drop as a super king, which is why a king feels noticeably more covered than a double.

A few brands cut their king at 225 × 220 cm rather than 230 × 220 cm. The difference is 2.5 cm each side, and a 230 cover will go over a 225 duvet without trouble. Always buy the duvet cover to match the duvet, not the bed.

Double vs king size: the difference

Because the king is longer as well as wider, a double fitted sheet will not stretch onto a king mattress. If you are moving up from a double, replace the sheet, the duvet and the cover together.

King fitted sheet size and depth

A king fitted sheet is 150 × 200 cm. Ours are cut for mattresses up to 35 cm deep, which covers most UK king mattresses, including pillow-tops. Measure from the base of the mattress to its top surface, and include a topper if it stays on. Over 35 cm, take the deeper option when you build your set.

UK king vs US king and queen

A UK king is closest to an American queen, not an American king. A UK king fitted sheet will go onto a US queen mattress, but it will be tight at the corners. For a US queen, a US king or a 160 × 200 cm European bed, we cut sheets to your measurements.

Standard or king pillowcases on a king bed?

Standard 50 × 75 cm pillowcases are the usual choice on a king, and they are what come in our king bedding sets. Two standard pillows on a 150 cm bed leave very little gap. King-size 50 × 90 cm pillowcases really come into their own on a super king. If you like the fuller look, a king-size pair also works on a king.
