Rugs

Rugs in quiet, natural tones to ground a bedroom or a living room, in rectangles up to 300 x 400 cm and in rounds. Constructions range from synthetic and wool-blend to jute and hand-woven wool. Each rug is sold on its own: choose the colour and the size, and every product page lists the exact composition and how to care for it.

Rugs: common questions

What size rug do I need?

Measure the room and the furniture first. In a living room, choose a rug big enough for at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs to sit on it. Under a double bed, 160 × 230 cm leaves a border on either side; under a king, go for 200 × 290 cm or larger. Under a dining table, allow about 60 cm beyond the table edge on every side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. Guides: living room, under a bed, under a dining table.

What sizes do the rugs come in?

Rectangles from 80 × 150 cm up to 300 × 400 cm, runners of 60 × 160 and 60 × 180 cm, a 60 × 90 cm doormat size, and rounds of 100, 120 and 150 cm across. Each size is labelled small, medium, large, extra large or room size. Not every design comes in every size.

What are the rugs made of?

It depends on the design: polypropylene and polyester, pure wool, blends of wool with polyester, nylon or jute, and jute or jute-wool blends, many of them hand-woven. The exact composition is on every product page. Our natural-fibre statement covers the bedding, not the rugs.

Which rug is best for a hallway or a busy room?

Polypropylene flatweaves and dense loop piles are the hard-wearing, easy-care choice for hallways, kitchens and family rooms. Jute is strong and textured but coarse underfoot and does not like getting wet, so it suits living rooms and bedrooms better than a kitchen or a bathroom. See hallway runner sizes and are jute rugs good.

Do I need a rug underlay?

On hard floors, yes. A non-slip underlay stops the rug moving and keeps the corners down. On carpet it is optional. See do you need a rug underlay.

How do I clean a rug?

Vacuum regularly, on suction only with no beater bar for loop-pile and hand-woven rugs. Blot spills straight away and spot clean with a mild detergent, and use a professional cleaner when needed. Rotating the rug every few months evens out wear and fading. More in how to clean a rug.

How are rugs delivered, and will it lie flat?

Rugs ship on the same delivery rates as everything else, with free UK delivery on orders over £50 and no surcharge for size. They come rolled in protective wrap and can take longer to dispatch than our usual 1–3 business days. A rolled rug can curl at first: lay it flat, roll it the other way for a few hours, and the edges usually settle within a few days. See how to flatten a rug.

Can I return a rug?

Yes, on the same policy as the rest of the range: within 30 days, unused and with the tags still attached. Re-roll it in its wrap and email us first, and we will send instructions. Full terms on shipping and returns.
